SNACK BREAK #05: diy granola, astrology readings, & a dyson doooop

You know what time it is… SNACK BREAK.

But before we begin… 2 quick (and super exciting) announcements! 

1. First (and least exciting): we moved our newsletter to a Substack! This doesn’t mean much other than the format will look a little different, we can use emojis now (YAY 😈🍪💕💅😚😝✌️✨), and all of our newsletters can be found in one place where you can like & comment (go ahead… give it a try)!!! 2. We just *relaunched* Cookies & Cream… and everyone’s freaking out. Our initial drop with Hannah G. from the Bachelor did so well, we knew we had to bring it back. You guys were obsessed – maybe even borderline confused – with how we made it taste just like an Oreo… but that’s our little secret. 😈 However, we did make a couple adjustments to the recipe, because we felt like the last batch could have been gooier. And oh baby is this one gooier. Shop here!

DIY Granola 🌾

Let me tell you a little secret… granola is so much yummier (and cheaper) when you make it yourself. And it’s SO EASY. Not to mention it makes your house smell incredible for the rest of the day after making it. I couldn’t find a recipe I liked so I kind of just winged it (wung it?), but it turned out PERFECT on the first try, so honestly I really don’t think you can go wrong. Btw… this granola is gluten-free, oil-free, & processed-sugar-free (slay) so here’s what I did:

Ingredients:

• 3 cups oats

• 1/2 cup whatever nuts & seeds you like (I used pecans & sunflower seeds but I think almonds would be really good)

• 2 tsp cinnamon

• 1/4 tsp salt

• 1/2 cup maple syrup

• 1 tsp vanilla (ngl I always “accidentally” overpour the vanilla bc yum)

Instructions:

• Preheat oven to 325º and line a baking sheet with parchment paper

• Mix your ingredients and spread evenly on the lined baking sheet

• Bake for 30 mins and stir halfway through

• Let cool & bam you’re done!!! Lasts up to a month in an airtight container

Astrology Readings 🔮

Fun fact: all new DEUX employees get an astrology reading when they join the team. This tradition started with me (Cam) when Sabeena gifted me one for my birthday, and it was so life changing, that we decided to make it a sort of *welcome gift* every time we bring on a new full-time employee. COOL HUH? The best way to explain it would be cross between a therapy session and seeing a psychic. In these sessions, you learn SO MUCH about yourself. You’ll feel SO SEEN. One time we even did a group session with the whole team and the way she was able to dissect our individual relationships with each other with such accuracy was mind blowing. Need a rec? We’d recommend Kristin Stephens (also one of Sabeena’s dear friends) ALL. DAY. LONG.

Cure Aqua Gel Exfoliator 🧼

Patrick told me this exfoliator essentially makes your dead skin roll off and that was enough for me to Jeff Bezos it straight to my doorstep in time for my skincare routine tomorrow night. I never really understood the beauty of an exfoliator until I started wondering why my other products weren’t working super well. That’s because your serums & moisturizes can’t penetrate the skin if theirs a barrier (dead skin, dirt, etc) in the way… duh. This Aqua Gel Exfoliator by Cure is so perfect because it’s not super abrasive (great for sensitive skin) but it gets the job done.

Starface SPF 🧴

While we’re on the topic of skincare – are you wearing SPF? Everyday? All over your body? 🤨 Not to sound like ur mom, but you should be. But you should also know that not all sunscreens are good for you… a lot are actually super bad for the environment and super bad for you (like cancer causing bad). And for this reason (& so many others) I’m OBSESSED with the Clear As Day SPF 46 by Starface. It’s non-toxic (check out its toxicity rating on ewg.org!) and it goes on SMOOOOTH as a baby’s butt. Also it’s odorless, practically invisible, and feels exactly like a primer when applied. I’ve truly never met another sunscreen that feels like this one.

Something Was Wrong Podcast 😳

On an entirely different note… new podcast rec! Something Was Wrong is an award-winning true-crime docuseries about the real-life stories of people who found themselves in relationships with, well, people who weren’t exactly who they thought they were. We’re talking being engaged to a gaslighting sociopath, becoming best friends with someone who extreme lengths to lie about having cancer for YEARS, or dating a man who faked a British accent and lied about being a doctor and scammed not one but MULTIPLE WOMEN??? These stories are CRAZY y’all. I recommend seasons 1, 2, & 9 but I’m still making my way through the rest of them.

Shark FlexStyle 💁‍♀️

Did someone say doooooop?! Let’s be real – the Dyson Air Wrap is so expensive. And while I do think it *can* be worth the investment (I have one and love love love it), there are definitely cheaper alternatives. Kristina just bought the Shark FlexStyle and swears by it. It comes with all the same extensions but at half the price??? Kinda wishing I knew about this one sooner...
